PLAYA DEL CARMEN

PLAYA DEL CARMEN

(Read original blog post here)

How to get there? Super easy. Get an ADO bus straight from the airport or from the Cancun city terminal.

Where to stay? I think the most popular accommodation is at the Yak but when I visited my friends there the internet was sooooo bad. The place I stayed at was called Tres Mundos it was on the local side, super nice people running it, it was cheap, free toast and coffee, beds were okay and it had a kitchen. There are so so so so many hostels that are not online so just walk about and you will find something.

Photo taken in Playa of some local dancers.

Where to eat? There is lots of street food (I love love love street food) especially in the park on 15 Avenida Nte and Calle 2 Nte. I think on the way to that there is the best taco shop I ever went to but I can’t remember the exact address and it didn’t have a name but I will describe it and perhaps you will find yourself there. I was on the corner, it has a plastic chairs. Scratch that I just looked it up on google maps its on the corner of 15 Avenida Nte and Calle 4 Nte. They are so simple but amazing, I am drooling right now.

Party? If you can try come for BPM, otherwise I heard Coco Bongo is nuts.

Extra info… There are a lot of cool cenotes around playa. Cenotes are fresh water whole usually in underground caves, super cool. I didn’t go to this one but I heard Dos Ojos is amazing, you can also snorkle or scuba dive in them.

Next…Of Playa there is an island called Cozumel, it is known for its diving. I was there before I got my scuba but I met lots and lots of people that said it was incredible.

HOLY BPM

HOLY BPM

I am completely in love with Mexico even though it has now stollen my favorite wallet with my keys to my hostel and keys to the locks that are on the locker and the bag but with some miracle I managed to actually forget the those keys at home so I didn’t need to get any locks cut.
Currently I’m sitting at the very cute local eatery with my 1L of fresh mango, orange and strawberry juice for $3. Waiting for an amazing feast!
On my first night here I decided to try find myself some cheaper tickets to BPM as I didn’t already have one, I got a hook up at my hostel and the guy was going to sell me the 10day ticket for $500 instead of $940, but it was still USD so I had the dilemma of whether to go for it or not and my friends were going out that night but I wouldn’t get it till the next day. That night I ended up meeting this french couple that got invited to a private BPM party on a rooftop of Thompson hotel where Apollonia were playing. It was free and fun. I thought to myself maybe I’ll just have to slum it and go to all the free events and maybe buy a few separate tickets.

Day two, I went to meet up with a girl called Jordan who my friend from home hooked me up with. The thing is we were on holyship together in the same massive Perth group but we never met. Our first meet up was actually here at the cafe where I’m writing this post from, but sadly it didn’t open till 6pm, so we went and got street food instead. And a miracle had occurred the other girl we were with Ani, said that she wasn’t feeling well and because it was raining she didn’t want to go out and said I could have her 10 day wrist band for FREE!!!! OMG! My luck was turning around which was great!! So that night we had pres, for some reason I bought all the ingredients to make mojitos but got a bottle of tequila…derp. The bottle of tequila cost me $5 which cost less than the shot glasses and I haven’t died.

Day three, so my Perth homies have left me and I was exhausted from the night before but the Paradise party was on tonight in the Jungle and I really wanted to go. I got home at 6pm from Jordan’s after discovering the most amazing taco place where I ate 3 tacos for $2, and they were the best tacos ever (picture below) I then decided to have a quick nap and post on the Holy BPM facey group(it’s a group on Facebook that was made for ppl that wee doing both Holyship and BPM so they could link up, coz #shipfam) to see if I could find some friends, I woke up at 7pm, 8pm,9pm and 10pm when I decided to finally get up to have some food. Downstairs I met some English girls who were going to the jungle so I decided to go with them, I made food and heard back from a guy of the Facebook group. We had pres at mine and went out. There I bumped into some dudes from Manchester I met the other night with the girls, got my wallet stolen, lost the other girls, had no money and no key to get back into the hostel. Luckily my new homies said I could stay with them and gave me some cash in the morning for a taxi.

Day four, I didn’t wake up till 5pm and then just slept the whole day trying to recover because tomorrow was a sunny day and I could finally go to a beach party (I forgot to mention the weather has been shite, raining all day every day).
Day five, I met some lovely ladies that work in Mexico teaching English and came to playa for the weekend at my hostel. We chilled at the beach (finally a sunny day) and then I relied on my trusty Holy BPM facey group to find me some friends. I ended up meeting up with this girl Alison, she was a lot of fun. We were originally with a guy she was hooking up with but then she decided we would have more fun without them. We ended up in someone’s cabana at the beach party with table service and lots and lots of free drinks.

Day six, today I decided that I had enough of partying and that I was going to Cozumel which is an island about a 35 minute ferry away from Playa. But then I got FOMO (fear of missing out) and I stayed and partied a little too hard. I checked out of my hostel thinking I was leaving and then I never checked in because I never came back till it was too late. Luckily I was with my new friends who I met through Luke a guy I met in my hostel in Miami (SOBE), after bonding about being Australian and our love for Holyship and how much fun we had on it, even though we didn’t meet there. They saved me by sneaking me into their hostel and finding me a spare bed.

Day seven, I’m finally out of here on the ferry to Cozumel, feeling like I’m about to throw up, I’m not sure if it’s the rough sea or the hang over.

MIAMI YOU HAVE BEEN SO GOOD TO ME

MIAMI YOU HAVE BEEN SO GOOD TO ME

So I had a bit of a shock when I moved into my hostel leaving my friends behind and meeting a crazy girl from Alabama. We greeted by her shaking her big ass in my face and then telling me, “I just lost my baby, and now I’m trying to get back into shape for the boys, but not from an abortion or anything it just stopped growing at 11weeks”. I was speechless, she than began to tell me that she just texted a guy, “I’m thinking about your big dick” and was surprised when he replied to her with some dirty shit. And the finally was when she told me she used to sell her body for money…man I was freaked the fuck out.

The first impressions of the hostel were not great, everything was rusty and falling apart, the kitchen was missing everything. I was just in a bad place, the hostel ended up rocking, free breakfast and dinner! One block away from the beach that had free yoga and amazing, amazing people.

Some of the highlights from Miami
-Free yoga on the beach

-Sleeping all day on Miami Beach

-Going in the DJ booth to watch MAKJ (total VIP, free drinks and great service)

-art walk in the art district of Miami, all the galleries were open and we could go in with djs and drinks and cool street art

-Making friends with one of the nicest dudes and big name in the EDM music industry

-Meeting an absolute babe from London who works as a lawyer for Nike. She invited me on this epic road trip around America but that means I have to choose between BPM or road trip! And I have no winter clothes!

The good shit is at the very end!!!!
So far HOLYSHIP has been pretty epic, on the 1st night we had the biggest feed and then went dancing. I became a part of the pizza crew and met Odesza, Adam from Peking duk, and the boys from Slumberjack.

 Day 2

Coco Kay got canceled, so we just woke up for breakfast at 11 and went back to sleep after. We slowly got our costumes on, tonight I am an alien. My costume got adapted throughout the night by some lovely ladies who stuck googly eyes on me (before and after below). We saw Peking Duk, Flosstradamus, and the Destructo’s sunrise set. Had some breakfast and went to sleep.

 Day 3

Was epic, I woke up super fresh went to yoga on the cruise ship, which was good! Then freshened up, chucked my bathers on and went to watch Peking Duk at the pool deck stage, from the Spa. Got dressed up again (lifeguard), watched a bit of Slumberjack and then went to have a feed at the Black Crab, which is a restaurant, I had a Pina Colada soup and some shrimp.

Once again we got rained out from pool deck to the theater stage. We saw Alice Wonderland, Flosstradamus, Snails, Tommy Trash, and then we moved the party to Galaxy stage I believe but I can’t really remember. There I saw my mate Patty who was dancing with Odesza, yes my fave band ever!!!!! So we had a cheeky dance together till the end of the set and then went upstairs to the artist chill area where we just talked shit and drank Pina Coladas with Odesza (Clay and Harrison), their vid guy Luke and Jai Wolf. Not gonna lie probs the best night of my life! Clay and Harrison are the nicest guys!!
It was sad to say bye bye to our amazing room!!

And now I’m back in Miami, I was meant to head out last night with Patty and Ruben from Peking Duck but I was way too tired. Now I’m just taking it easy in my not so glamours hostel room, at least there was free dinner! It’s hard to transition back to solo travel when you have been traveling with mates and the hardest part is transitioning from hotel’s king sized beds to tiny half a single hostel bed.
I still feel like I’m on the boat and the floor is rocking beneath me. HOLYSHIP blew my mind, I’m not sure if I just got lucky but I had the best experience, amazing boat, amazing food and amazing people!
